Using my typeface, "Cockroach Sans," I created three experimental visual books, each corresponding to one of the three chapters in Franz Kafka's novella, "The Metamorphosis." The artwork encapsulates the contents and page layouts of the chapters within the symbolic form of a cockroach, delving into the essence of the narrative. When these pages come together, a striking image of a cockroach-like creature emerges, a poignant metaphor for the novel's protagonist, Gregor Samsa's, physical and psychological transformations. These books, again representing individual chapters, vary in size, font style, and layout, symbolizing the narrative's evolution. The Noto Sans typeface, utilized for the novel's content and text, morphs throughout the story, creating a warped, unsettling appearance. Furthermore, the size and pages of the books gradually increase while the page layouts become increasingly contorted.
